ЯПОНИЯ: цивилизация, культура, язык 2024 546 Kurono Yoshibumi: 30 years of work for the benefit of the Oriental Faculty (Osmanov E.M.) The name of Kurono Yoshibumi (Joseph Nikolae- vich Kurono) is well known in Japanese studies circles, especially among those whose line of work is associated with St.Petersburg University. Kuro- nowas one of the first to teach Japanese at the university on a regular basis and for a long time (30 years). Born in 1859 (Japanese historiography indicates that the year of birth is implausible, since it does not correspond to the time of his father's death) 1 , in a samurai family of vassals of the notorious Enomoto Takeaki, Kurono, on the advice of the latter, began to study Russian at the school of foreign languages. It`s need to say that Kurono family was quite significant, its representatives were direct vassals of the Tokugawa house and occupied a large mansion in the Kojimachi-Tanimachi area of Edo.
