Any civil event (birth, marriage, death) which were not registered in a «special notebook» ( defteri mahsusa ) of the Russian Consulate would not be recognized officially by any Soviet Socialist Republic Government. 2 Apart from Soviet citizens, citizen of other countries were also applying to the Russian Consulate for its mediation and information. A petition was given by the Trabzon Governorship for the release of Anderoglu Besim from Athens who was arrested in Batum by his mother. Trabon sent his chief sec- retary to Batum in October 1921 to investigate about the release of Andero- glu Besim. 3 In November 1926 a certificate belonged to a women named Tatyana Fileniko who resides in Samsun was requested from Trabzon Governorship. The Governorship sent this document to Samsun Governorship. 4 A soviet citizen, Garasdanis Karagozyanis who resides in Erivan gave a petition to the consulate on 22 December 1925. In his petition, which was translated by the Consulate translator Agop, he was asking about what had happened to his real estate in Trabzon. The Consulate sent a letter to the Trabzon Governorship in 17 April 1926 asking results of the investigation about this real estate. The governorship investigated the issue through the registres of the Deed Office (Tapu Mudurlugu) and the Financial Directorate (defterdarlik) and released the information. 5 (A letter dated 9 May 1926 to the Consulate by the Governorship, MECA). The wife, sons and inheritors of Kapayanidi Konstantin who occupied important place in the commercial life and banking activities in Trabzon gave a petition to the Consulate in 1926. They were living in Athens and wanted to learn what was the claim of the Trabzon Municipality on Kapayanidi’s trad- ing establishment and bank.
