224 fairs the weapons were given back to the Trabzon Soviet Russian Consulate in April. 1 The Russian Consul was not afraid of conveying the directives of his Government to Turkish officials. The Consul visited General Sami Sabit (Karaman) Bey in 20 May 1922. He said that the Soviet Government would not recognize Galip Pasha who was waiting in Trabzon to go Buhara as an ambassador. The Ministry of Foreign affairs was informed about the situa- tion. Two days later the Ministry decided not to appoint Galip Pasha as an ambassador and asked him to go back to Ankara. 2 The Trabzon Municipality wrote to the Governorship on 10 October 1922 to request registration of any car belonged to the Russian Consulate and Iran Consulate in Trabzon. 3 The Turkish-Russian friendship became clearly visible during the cele- bratory and welcoming ceremonies, and in the messages that were sent in relation to victory and anniversary celebrations and other national and reli- gious festivals. The Trabzon Russian Consul Trabon congratulated Governor Hazim Tepeyran Bey on «the glorious great victory of Turkish nation in Sa- karya War on 17 September 1921». Hazim Bey thanked him in a letter sent in reply. Trabon wrote to Istikbal newspaper at 28 May 1922 to congratulate on Ramadan religious festival. He was saying that «he is congratulating the Ana- tolian people and its brave army and he hoped that the nation would reach its national independence festival very soon». 4 While one of the leading heroines of the Turkish Independence war lieutenant Fatma Seher Hanim was staying in Trabzon on her way to Erzu- rum, she was invited to the Russian Consulate on 15 July 1922. In course of this visit Trabon gave a golden watch to her as a gift and showed his respect. Next day Fatma Hanim’s gratifying letter to Trabon was published in news- papers. 5 During the anniversary of the Russian Revolution congratulations letters were sent mutually. At the 7 th anniversary of the Russian revolution on 8 No- vember 1924 a special ceremony was organized at the Consulate building. Front part of the building was decorated with laurels and flags.
