Кolotov (Saint Petersburg State University, v.kolotov@spbu.ru ) HISTORY OF THE LENINGRAD / PETERSBURG SCHOOL OF VIETNAM STUDIES Abstract: The teaching and learning of the Vietnamese (Annamic) language began in Leningrad in the first half of the 30s of the XX century. Prof. Yu. K. Schutsky, who prepared the first manuals on the Annamic language, played an important role in this process. In the late 30s, he, like many other orientalists, was repressed, which led to the cessation of teaching this language. The restoration of Vietnamese studies, like other countries of Southeast Asia, occurred after the Great Patriotic War thanks to the efforts of Professor Nikolay D. Andreev. Soon, in the mid-1950s, Prof. Nguyễn T i Cẩn was sent from Hanoi to organize the teaching of the Vietnamese language at Leningrad State University, who laid the foundations for the study of Vietnam, which are still developing at St. Petersburg State University. Keywords: Leningrad Vietnamese studies, St. Petersburg Vietnamese studies, Yu. K. Schutsky, Nguyễn T i Cẩn.
