Despite upheavals over recent decades including the devastating impact of the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997–1998, Indonesia has managed to embark on a path of sustained economic growth. Will the largest economy of South-East Asia be able to cope with new challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic and the upcoming global economic crisis? The effectiveness of government policies will largely determine the Indonesian model of economic development in the new world order.
