Международная научная конференция, посвященная 65-й годовщине начала изучения языков ЮВА в нашей стране The Sunnylands Declaration (2016) and the US—ASEAN Relations... 327 Regarding the contents, the Declaration includes 17 points, mentions the following contents: - Recall the important development step of the U.S. — ASEAN relations when the two sides upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in 2015; - Reaffirm the key principles that will guide the US-ASEAN strategic partnership in future. These principles must base on the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations, theASEAN Charter and international law (Article 1); - Emphasize the important role of economic cooperation for peace, security and mutual development of the two sides; recognize each other’s economic development policies (articles 2, 3) - Respect and support for ASEAN Centrality and ASEAN-led cooperation mechanisms in developing regional architecture of the Asia-Pacific (article 5) - Joint commitment to: + Solve disputes based on international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982; maintain peace, respect regional order; respect the rights and privileges of all nations; promote cooperation to address maritime security challenges and non-traditional security issues (articles 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12); + Ensure opportunities for all parties to promote democratic rights, build a rule of law society, protect environment (Article 4); + Strengthen people — to — people connection, especially the young generation; increase support for the realization of the ASEAN Community' goals (articles 13, 14); + Promote a global partnership for sustainable development between ASEAN and the U.S. (article 15); + Enhance collaboration at international and regional cooperation forums, especially at existing ASEAN — led mechanisms (article 16); + Commitment to sustainably maintain political dialogue at the Head of State/Government level between the U.S. andASEAN through the annual ASEAN — U.S. Summit and the East Asia Summit (EAS) (article 17).
