Международная научная конференция, посвященная 65-й годовщине начала изучения языков ЮВА в нашей стране The Sunnylands Declaration (2016) and the US—ASEAN Relations... 335 and affirmed the pioneering and leading role of the United States in guaranting the Southeast Asia’s security and prosperity. Adjustments of the D.Trump administration’s security policy towards East Asia with a broader strategy — the Indo-Pacific Strategy of Peace and Openness (FOIP) did not diminish the key strategic position of Southeast Asia and the central role of ASEAN in implementing the East Asia policy of the United States. US — ASEAN relations from 2016 to the present, with many important results, especially the drastic actions of the President D.Trump administration in protecting maritime security in the South China Sea has proved that. In fact, ASEAN is a regional organization that comprises small and medium-sized countries with developing economies. Although ASEAN’s motive for establishment was deeply influenced by politics and security, its priority goal and the biggest concern were emphasized by ASEAN countries from the beginning, especially from second half of the 1970s up to now, is to focus on economic development, industrialization and modernization and strengthening national defense capacity. Therefore, the current expansion of China’s influence, especially in economic sphere, is a major challenge for the United States. Because that there is the fact that ASEAN countries’s economic dependence on China is increasing due to the deep and diversified China-ASEAN economic links; Southeast Asian countries’ demand for trade, investment capital and markets of China is increasing. Therefore, in addition to effectively implementing security-defense commitments and a strong military presence to support the security- defense capabilities of ASEAN countries, curb China's ambitions, expanding the partnership network, focusing on multilateral economic initiatives and actively implementing commitments are essential for the United States in the future. It can be said that the Chinese factor as well as the competition of other great powers in Southeast Asia has affirmed the strong influence of the Sunnylands Declaration on the strategic move of the US. That creates a strong motivation for the U.S. to quickly and effectively implement their commitments to ASEAN.
