Baklanova (Lomonosov Moscow State University Moscow, baklanova@gmail.com ) REALIZATIONS OF SEMANTIC SHIFT IN TAGALOG BORROWINGS Abstract: The paper investigates semantic changes in sample Tagalog borrowings with the perspective of the “semantic shift” theory by Anna Zalizniak (2013). Some Sanskrit, Malay and Spanish loanwords are given to illustrate different types of semantic shift realized in Tagalog borrowings. The cases of the shift are compared with the cross-linguistic data of the DatSemShift web catalogue [Zalizniak Anna A. et al. 2020]. Keywords: borrowing, loanword, semantic shift, Tagalog, Filipino, language contact
