Ближний Восток и его соседи

g 164 h David Nicolle 3–6. The handgrips of the best-preserved composite hand bows in the Euphrates hoard. One was partially covered in red-stained leather (photos 3 [uppermost] and 4). The others were strengthened or made more comfortable for the archer by the addition of bone plates (photos 5 and 6). In some cases, the sinew binding clearly helped keep this bone plate in place (photo 6). (Author’s photograph; reportedly now in the National Museum store, Doha, Qatar).
